A 50-year-old man has been imprisoned in Gernika(Bizkaia) on charges of assaulting his former partner , threatening to kill him with an axe and holding him for hours .
The Basque Government's Department of Security has reported that the attack took place in the early morning hours of Tuesday. The woman reported in her complaint that she met her former partner in the street and, after grabbing her arm, forced her to take her to a nearby building.
When the woman was inside, the detainee beat and kicked her and threatened to kill her with an axe, and the man also blocked the door to prevent her from leaving. The woman managed to leave the house in the morning and had to be treated in the hospital for various bruises.
After filing thecomplaint, the officers arrested the suspect on Sunday afternoon. The man had a restraining order in force for another case of ill-treatment of the same person, which was being investigated as a crime of gender-based violence.
After the police proceedings had been completed, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the Gernika-Lumo Guard Court on Monday, after which he was placed in prison .
