The neighbours of the Rentería district of Gernika have been out of their homes since 1 July, after the works being carried out on the plot ondo caused serious cracks in their homes. So far, the costs of being out of the house have been paid to them by the cooperative that is in the site, but from now on, they say, this will not be the case.

Coincidingwith the 89th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika, an act of protest took place today at the gates of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, with the display of large fabrics representingthe Guernica de Picasso. They have claimed that the painting should be in the Basque Country and have also taken advantage of it "to show solidarity with all the oppressed peoples of the world and to denounce the aggression of imperialism".

In the morning, a sculpture was inaugurated that aims to be the "place of democratic memory", representing the "symbolic door to peace".

The events on Sunday will begin at 11 a.m. with the inauguration of the sculpture "Place of Democratic Memory". The Basque Government has asked the Spanish Government to temporarily transfer the Guernica de Picasso to the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the bombing.

The Minister of Culture values and respects the request of the Basque Government for the temporary transfer of the 'Gernika' on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the bombing, but rejects the possibility. Iñigo Lopez, senator of the PNV, reminds him that the technical report was made two days after the request and that it related the viability of the Madrid museum to the painting.

The mayor of the municipality insists that it is the "people of Gernika" themselves who want the temporary transfer of the work of Picasso. The Government recently made the request, but the Reina Sofia Museum has rejected the request for conservation reasons.

They have openly and loudly proclaimed that "organized society is capable of resisting the insanity of institutions and authorities."

According to the abertzale coalition, they will have a budget of 820,000 euros. "It is not a government pact, it is not a stability agreement, it is not EH Bildu's budgets, but it is useful for Gernika."

The Civil Guard has seized more than 800 counterfeit products in Bizkaia worth 35,000 euros. Searches have been carried out in Getxo (two) and Muxika. For the time being, two persons are being investigated as alleged perpetrators.

One day after the definitive suspension of the Guggenheim Urdaibai project, the spokesman for the Guggenheim Urdaibai Stop platform, Eider Gotxi, has stressed that the people have been victorious in the face of the "rigid and imposing" attitude of the institutions. He has called on the public to participate in the celebration of the victory at the Jaigiro on February 7 in Gernika.

They disagree with the investment plan that the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia have drawn up for the region. They say that the region is getting older because young people are going abroad because they have no chance of working and living there, so they say that employment and housing plans are needed first.

After two years of study and eleven discussions, the Board has decided to reject the Guggenheim project in Urdaibai.
