The landing of Father Mari in Brindisi, Italy.
Father Mari has landed 53 of the 56 rescued last Friday in the Mediterranean Sea at the Italian port of Brindisi, after three days of sailing, as reported on Monday by the NGO Maritime Humanitarian Rescue (SMH), which manages the rescue ship.
The landing took place early this morning "normally"under the supervision of the National Police and the Red Cross.
Of the 56 people rescued last Friday by Father Mari in the Mediterranean, 3, the two-month-old baby and his parents, were treated by the Italian Coast Guard for extreme malnutrition and dehydration.
The rest of the rescued persons included six other children, 16 minors and 17 women. Pertsona migrants are of African origin, Guinea Conakri, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Mali and Cameroon.
The NGO claims that they are "systematically assigned remote ports" — they have landed 500 nautical miles from the rescue site — and that the criminalization of humanitarian ships violates international maritime law.
