A landslide on the wall of Artxanda Park has forced the area to close
The area has been cordoned off and the works will be done "as soon as the project is completed".
The Bilbao City Council will carry out the renovation or reinforcement of a wall of the Artxanda Park with the sculpture called La Huella, where "instability" has been detected in the original perimeter masonry wall, which has led to the "partial collapse" of the affected area, so that work will begin "as soon as the project is completed".
The incident was reported on 9 December and, following a technical inspection carried out on the same day, a detachment of about five metres from the wall, as well as cracks and abdomen in the adjacent area "showing a progressive deterioration of the structure" was observed.
In view of this situation, the City Council has cordoned off the affected area, both on the upper promenade and on the lower promenade, in order to ensure the safety of the users of the park and to avoid risks while "final measures" are taken.
At the same time, a specialized company has been commissioned to conduct a geo-geotechnical study of the condition of the wall and slope.
The technical report indicates that the structure has no connection mortar between the blocks, no detailed information on the foundations, and that the total length is approximately 280 metres, as explained by the City Council.
