A video has been released to refute the version of the ertzaina investigated for shooting Iker Arana with a foam bullet
The Justice for Arana platform has released a video in which the lawyer of the Ertzaintza has requested the filing of the case. The young Iker Arana filed a complaint for the loss of a testicle in the operation to evict the Gaztetxe Etxarri in Bilbao after the officers fired.
The young Iker Arana lost a testicle in April 2025, when the Ertzaintza evicted the Etxarri Gaztetxe in the Rekalde districtofBilbao after one of the agents fired a foam bullet.
Following the complaint, the Ertzaina under investigation testified to the judge last December, and his lawyer has recently requested the filingof the case, based on the statements of two Ertzainas, arguing that it is "impossible"to lose a testicle from that distance by a foam bullet, so that the young man had skipped the security cord.
After learning that the lawyer has requested the filing of the case, the Justice Arana platform has released a video that does not correspondto the version of the Ertzainas and the lawyer, which shows that the situation was calm in front of the Gaztetxe Etxarri and that the Ertzaintza fired for the first time, which led to several people, including Arana, accusing the officers of their attitude.
As can be seen from the images broadcast, the young man came a few yards up with his arms raised in protest, and you can't see him throwing bottles or breakingthe safety cord several meters away. However, at that moment, it appears that an ertzaina fired again, this time at Arana, and the bullet hit his testicles. "So the rupture of a testicle, as recorded in the medical report that same night at the hospital in Basurto, was caused by the foam bullet fired by the Ertzaintza."
The lawyer of the ertzaina investigated isthe general lawyer of the union Euspel, which, according to the platform, "represents the most reactionary sector of the Ertzaintza", and recalls that this same lawyer has presented himself as a private accusation in the case of the incidents in Vitoria resulting from the concentration of the Falange in Spain, and has also denounced that he defends the ertzainas investigated for "beating" two of the detainees.
For his part, the Security Adviser of the Basque Government, Bingen Zupiria, has stressed that the commitment of the department he heads has been, from the outset, "to cooperate closely with the justice system and to make available to them all the data and information available to clarify what happened". In this context, he has stressed thatthe legal services of the Department of Security are not providing legal assistance to the accused, "and it will be the justice that will clarify what happened."
