The Alarde Commission(the body responsible for guaranteeing the rules and regulations of the Alarde) decided to apply the disciplinary procedure provided for in the Alarde Ordinance and, in view of the size of the matter, consulted the Board of Authorities, which in itself had no competence over it.
At this first consultation, the Board of Commanders supported the decision to initiate the procedure, consisting of the General, the Commander, and 25 Captains and Heads of Unit.
A meeting took place on 2 February, at which eight captains and heads of unit of the Board of Directors changed their initial position and disagreed with the procedure.
This change has led to the resignation of General Asier Etxepare and Commander Ruben Fraile, who claim that they cannot continue to lead a group of members who do not support the initiation of proceedings in the face of an alleged macho attack.
