Spain's Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has confirmed that the fire in whichthree women died last night in Miranda de Ebro is a case of male crime committed by the ex-partner of one of these women. In statements to the media in Benasque (Huesca), the minister has denounced the crime.
In connection with the murder, a 60-year-old male has been arrested, who was seen by witnesses piling mattresses at the bottom of the burning building.

In addition to Dolores, her mother Antonia, 78, and her 24-year-old neighbor Laura Valentina have died in the fire.
The Minister has insisted that the fight over gender-based violence is "a matter of state" and has shown the Government's willingness to take "whatever measures are necessary" to deal with such incidents.
"It is necessary to reiterate once again that this is a matter for society, a matter at the state level, in which we must all be fully engaged," he stressed, while stressing that the Government "remains firm in its determination to confront any discourse that may deny the strength to which women are subjected because they are women."

The 60-year-old man arrested this morning for setting fire to a local building where his former partner, his mother and a neighbor died had previously been convicted of kidnapping women , according to news agencies.
Specifically, in 2024, he was sentenced to one year and seven months in prison for holding, chaining and beating a woman in a busy house in Miranda de Ebro in November 2023.
In 2015, he was sentenced to six years in prison for kidnapping a nine-year-old girl for 14 hours.
