The TSJPV has further restricted the parking system in Lekeitio, leaving the green area only for residents
The parking system established by the City Council has therefore been considered appropriate, although it has ruled on one point that the hitherto "discriminatory" rule was dela, since the neighbours of Munitibar, Aulestia, Gizaburuaga, Amoroto, Mendexa, Ispaster and Ea had access to parking in the centre, unlike the other non-residents.
TheHigh Court of Justice of the Basque Country has considered the parking system established by the City Council in Lekeitio two years ago to be adequate, although it has changed the conditions for parking in the green area, since from now on only residents will be able to park in the centre during the summer.
The High Court of Justice has ruled that the rule so far was "discriminatory" because the residents of Munitibar, Aulestia, Gizaburuaga, Amoroto, Mendexa, Ispaster and Ea could park in the center, unlike the rest of the non-residents.
The issue of the parking system has brought a long line since 2024 (when it was approved) against which two women who spend the summer in Lekeitio, both neighbours of Bilbao, filed an appeal, which has not been fully accepted by the High Court.
As has been said, theCourt has recognized the right of the City Council to regulate parking, but has stressed that the Municipal Ordinance does not respect the principle of equality on the grounds that it treats the neighbours of the surrounding villages differently.
City Hall, glad they proved him right.
Lekeitio City Council is pleased that the parking system will remain in place until next summer.
"The High Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) has dismissed the appeals filed against the parking system, even if it has amended Article 8, which means that the neighbours of the surrounding villages who have hitherto been able to park in the green zone will no longer be able to do so. It is a great loss for Lekeitio and bad news for those who make their purchases in the village all year round," he said.
The City Council has also recalled that tomorrow, Tuesday, the deadline for applying for the sticker will be opened at the tourist office.
