A 29-year-old man was arrested today in Elgoibar on charges of sexual assault last Sunday in San Sebastian. The victim is a 32-year-old woman who filed a complaint yesterday.
The alleged aggressor was arrested early in the morning and when he was in the custody of the Ertzaintza he had a health problem and was taken to hospital. As the latter incident occurred at a police station, the Department of Safety and Security Barne Chief of Affairs opened an internal investigation to clarify what had happened.
The matter has also been referred to the Basque Country Police Control and Transparency Committee and the Security Adviser, Bingen Zupiria, has requested a hearing before the Committee on Institutions, Public Governance and Security of the Basque Parliament for clarification.
