Pope Leon XIV will receive the President at the Vatican on May 13
It invites the General Hearing to be held on that day, a meeting which the Basque Government considers to be of great value and which strengthens the institutional presence of the Basque Country at the international level.
Pope Leon XIV has invited President Imanol Pradales to the Vatican General Hearing on May 13, according to presidential sources.
The Basque Government considers this to be a "high-value meeting" which strengthens the institutional presence of the Basque Country at the international level.
"Both will have the opportunity to reflect on the main challenges and fundamental values of the world, including peace, democracy, human dignity and social justice, a context marked by the rise of authoritarian and populist discourse and the risk of regression in rights and freedoms," the Presidency stressed.
They have also stressed from the Government that "since the election of Pope in May 2025, Leon XIV has placed dialogue, cooperation between peoples and the promotion of peace, human dignity and social justice at the centre of his activities from the very beginning of his pontificate".
