Mondragon Unibertsitatea reported on Tuesday that a woman from the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences (HUEZI) was raped last Friday. The university reported the incident through an internal note sent to students and staff.
In protest at the events and in solidarity with the victim, they have called for rallies of revulsion at 12:00 this morning at the faculties of Eskoriatza, Aretxabaleta and Bilbao, which make up Huezi.
The University expresses its "strongest condemnation and rejection" of what happened and conveys its full support to the assaulted woman and her environment, while stressing that it has made available all necessary means and hopes that the proceedings to clarify the facts will be conducted "promptly" and that the corresponding responsibilities will be clarified.
The note emphasizes that male violence "is not an isolated event" but the expression of a "structural problem"that violates the dignity and physical and psychological integrity of women. Mondragon Unibertsitatea, as an educational institution, reiterates its commitment to the promotion of human dignity and real equality.
This isthe second sexual assault reported within a month in connection with the Mondragon Unibertsitatea community, after it was reported in April that a professor at the Oñati Faculty of Business had attempted rape in the faculty parking lot, in which case the Ertzaintza arrested a 51-year-old man.
