Lekeitio City Council will appeal the TSJPV decision on parking
This summer, it will continue to apply the current regulations to allow residents of nearby municipalities to park in the OTA green area, not tourists or second-home residents in the village.
Lekeitio City Council will appeal the ruling of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) concerning parking in the town, which, on the grounds of disorderly treatment between neighbours, has annulled part of the municipal ordinance regulating parking.
In particular, the Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country (TSJPV) has repealed the part of the Rules of Procedure which states that the residents of six municipalities near Lekeitio are allowed to park in the centre of the town (Green Area), but not those living in others, a distinction which, according to the Court, is not justified.
The ordinance provides that, although the inhabitants of Lekeitio and surrounding municipalities (Aulestia, Gizaburuaga, Amoroto, Mendexa, Ispaster and Ea) may park in the centre, tourists and visitors (with or without second residence in Lekeitio) may not park in the centre and must leave their vehicles in parking spaces located at the entrance to the village.
In a statement, the City Council has explained that it will appeal the ruling, including the current parking system for citizens that it considers "fair and appropriate".
In any case, the municipal institution recalls that during the summer the municipal ordinance will remain in force, so that about 3,000 citizens of Aulesti, Gizaburuaga, Amoroto, Mendexa, Ispaster and Ea will be able to continue parking in the centre of Lekeitio throughout the summer.
The City Council reiterates that the parking system has led to a reduction in traffic and noise in the centre of the municipality, as well as an improvement in mobility for neighbours and visitors, and stresses the importance of the citizens of the surrounding villages in the life of the village.
