The transfer of prisoners from Martutene prison to Zubieta has begun
Following theofficial opening on Monday of the new prison in Zubieta , the Basque Government will carry out throughout this week the transferof all prisoners from Martutene, with strict security measures.
In the morning, the release of prisoners from the Martutene prison, the escort of the Ertzaintza vans on the way to Zubieta, began in vans. At the time of departure, officers are cutting off traffic so that priority is given to vehicles travelling from one prison to another.
The new prison in Zubieta is located at the Eskuzaitzeta Industrial Estate. The new prison has a capacity of 450 people and will accommodate the 254 prisoners who were currently in Martutene.
