The 1981 law was an achievement of many women's struggle, but their economic conditions continued to hinder the process of divorce.
Although more than four decades have passed, much remains to be done to ensure that divorce proceedings are fully fair. In the ACV, the 2015 Family Relations Act has eased the economic burden on joint custody, but, according to Juntas y Revoltas, "there is no substantial monitoring and control."
