More than 64,000 migrants have requested extraordinary regularization in Hego Euskal Herria
49,451 people have registered with the ACV and 14,886 have registered with the Foral Community of Navarre. The main applications have been centralized in Bizkaia (28,834), reaching almost 1.2 million applications in the Spanish state.
A total of 64,337 migrants in an irregular administrative situation have applied to take advantage of the extraordinary regularization process initiated by the Spanish Government in Hego Euskal Herria. According to the final data published by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration after the closing of the deadline on 30 June, the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) has registered 49,451 applications, while in Navarrathe figure has reached 14,886.
Within the CAE, most of the procedures have been carried out in Bizkaia, 28,834, followed by Gipuzkoa (12,063) and Álava (8,554).
This extraordinary process, which entered into force on 16 April by Royal Decree of the Government of Spain, originates from a People's Legislative Initiative HEL which at the time received the support of more than 600,000 signatories. This measure has made it possible to apply for residence and work permits for those who had been unlawfully in the country before 1 January and who accredited a minimum stay of five months, as well as for those who had applied for asylum before that date and had no criminal record.
The Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, has described the procedure as a "milestone" and a "collective success." In any case, the regularization process has ended up conditioned by a last-minute judicial upheaval in the South Basque Country.
This judicial intervention opens up a scenario of uncertainty about the legal value and future of the more than 64,000 applications processed in Álava, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Navarre.
