Administrative Court No. 1 of Vitoria-Gasteiz has upheld thesuspension of the disqualification imposed by the Provincial Council of Álava against the association Sarrea Euskal Udalekuak, which prevented the association from carrying out leisure activities for children and young people in the Alavesa town of Bernedo.
The court rejected the allegations made by the Council this week and confirmed the initial measure in favour of the organisers, the sources said.
Despite this judicial protection, the Sarrea Basque Summer Camp has announced that it will not hold summer camps in Bernedo this year. According to the association, since it was impossible to predict where the sentence would go, they offered different alternatives to families who wanted to send their children to these camps and have decidedto maintain them.
The Provincial Council of Álava disqualified the association and imposed a fine of 9,000 euros, as well as denying it permits to organize camps this year, but with this ruling these penalties have been revoked on the grounds that the measures taken by the Council were "abusive".
