ELA asks Osakidetza to guarantee attention in Euskera
The union has called for a plan to Euskaldunize workers who do not yet know the language at Osakidetza's headquarters in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
On Monday, the ELA trade union concentrated at the headquarters of Osakidetza in Vitoria-Gasteiz to denounce the fact that the public health service does not yet guarantee the right of citizens to receive care in Basque and the use of this language in the workplace.
ELA has called for the progressive equalization of the two official languages , as well as a plan that includes resources and deadlines for the Euskaldunization of staff of the public body who do not yet know the language.
The mobilisation coincides with the evaluation of the Third Osakidetza Euskera Plan, a plan which, inthe opinion of ELA, is not being an effective tool for making progress in standardisation, since it states that as long as Castilian speakers are fully guaranteed their linguistic rights, the Basques continue to see their own rights violated.
In this context, they criticise the fact that 100% of public jobs have Spanish as a requirement and that, on the contrary, the Basque language is not required in a general way, which, according to the union, 'perpetuates asituation of inequality '.
