Hundreds of people demand justice for Ander in Santurtzi
The attendees chanted messages like "Justice for Ander" and "No to Police Impunity" along the way, stopping with a taser gun at the place where the young man was held and leaving flowers in his memory.
Hundreds of people demonstrated in Santurtzion Friday afternoon, convened by the Justizia Ander platform , to demand clarificationof the death of the 30-year-old who died two days after being arrested by the local police on 22 June.
The attendees chanted messages like "Justice for Ander"and"No to Police Impunity"along the way, stopping with a taser gun at the place where the young man was held and leaving flowers in his memory.
At the end of the protest, the association has denounced that there are "direct perpetrators and accomplices"in the death of the young man and has called for"truth, justice and accountability, so that his name is not left between lies and oblivion. "
The platform also emphasizes that Ander went to the local police station in Santurtzi to seek help, that he was having a psychotic outbreak, as he had done before.
However, they report that "instead of being assisted, the local police reduced it violently" and that, according to their version, "tasers and truncheons were used to immobilize it".
In this context, he remained on the ground for about two hours, in the midst of a heat wave, "while the officers continued to beat him," after which he was taken unconscious to the hospital, where he died two days later after being in a coma.
The association holds the local police officers involved in the operation "directly responsiblefor what happened "and also accuses the municipal government team of acting as" accomplices "because it supported police action." Instead of questioning the police version, they expressed their full support for the local police. "
Spokesmen for Justice for Ander have described this attitude as "additional pain"to the family and environment of the deceased.
That is why they wanted to reclaim Ander's character in the face of the image thatemergedafter the events: "Ander was not a conflicting person. Those of us who knew him know that he was a close, loving, funny, kind, polite and respectful person."
In this context, they call for concrete measures to ensure that similar events do not recur in the future, calling for a ban on the use of potentially lethal police resources such as taser guns and the precautionary removal of the local police officers involved.
Finally, they have called for further evidence and testimony to be presented and for justice to be done in the streets, thus announcing a new demonstration on 3 October.
