The fire in Zaragoza is approaching Navarre and Petilla Aragón has been evacuated
The fire is about 10 kilometres from the Navarre town and the Department of the Environment's forest guards and firefighters are working hard to defend it.
The Navarre authorities have decided to evacuate Petilla Aragón pueblo pueblo as a result of the forest fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in Ores (Zaragoza).
SOS Navarra has activated operational situation 1 of the Special Civil Protection Plan. Forest guards and fire brigades of the Department of the Environment are working in defence of the municipality using heavy machinery, creating a perimeter around it.
According to Sos Navarra, the evacuation has been coordinated by Civil Protection technicians, the mayor and Foral Police patrols. There has been no need to provide shelters.
In particular, a helicopter from the Government of Navarre, the two MITECO helicopters based in Noain, the firefighters from the parks of Sangüesa and Tafallaand the Environment Forest Guards are working.
Fire fighters from the parks of Peralta, Estella and Tudela have also been mobilized to intervene in Petilla Aragón, where the Foral Police are monitoring access to the municipality and the town centre.
7,600 hectares burned
The fire started on Wednesday in the Zaragoza town of Ores and has alreadyburned 7,600 hectares ofA0 in that community, on a perimeter of about 60 kilometers . Roberto Bermudez de Castro, Finance Advisor of the Aragonese community, has stated that it is "one of the most serious and complex forest fires of recent years."
Aragon has had to evacuate five villages : Ores, Asin, Luesia, Malpica de Arba and Uncastillo. The people affected have been treated in Ejea de los Caballeros and in the resources enabled in Zaragoza. Momentuz, the municipality most affected is Asi, where at least 10 homes have been damaged.
The operation, launched by Aragon, employs 400 people. In addition, EMU has deployed another 200 troops and is using 22 air assets and 90 agricultural tractors, the latter in containment and defence.
The main concern of the operation is at the head of the fire approaching Navarre.
