Bermeo, Elantxobe and Mundaka will live today one of the most special days of the year with the celebration of Madalen Eguna. The maritime procession that will take place in the morning and the tradition around the island of Izaro usually brings together thousands of people every year inBusturialdea, and the festive atmosphere will continue throughout the day in both localities.
According to the custom of the year, the ships of Bermeo will sail to the island of Izaro, and along the way the mayor will throw a tile into the sea to declare that the island belongs to Bermeo. Legend has it that Bermeo won the property of Izaro to Mundaka in a regatta, and since then this symbolic gesture has been repeated every year.
