The Basque Government lifts the ban on the movement of lorries during the eclipse day and imposes restrictions
The Department of Safety and Security initially provided for a total 24-hour ban by 12 August, but the new restriction will be limited to the afternoon slot.
The Basque Government has decided to reverse and significantly ease the restrictions envisaged for heavy goods vehiclesdue to the total solar eclipse of 12 August. Following a meeting this week with associations and professional road transport groups, the ban on the movement of vehicles of more than 7,500 kilograms will end up being limited to the 17 to 23:59 hours of that day, coinciding with the maximum traffic intensity forecast.
This new resolution alters the initial position of the Department of Safety and Security, with which the Directorate of Traffic intends to maintain its initial objective of ensuring road safety and alleviating the Basque road network during astronomical phenomena, in anticipation of massive congestion of travel, although it has been decided to reduce the ban to only seven hours in order to mitigate the economic and operational impacts on the daily activities of transport companies and professionals.
