Solar eclipses
The three phenomena of the total solar eclipse are visible, thanks to augmented reality
The pearls of Baily, the diamond ring and the spectacular suncrown can be seen from 8:27 p.m. on August 12. The weather has shown us these phenomemoos in the third installment of reports on the important astronomical event.
The shadow of the moon will be engraved on the surface of the Earth on the day of the solar eclipse
On August 12, the day we will be able to enjoy a complete solar eclipse, several balloon probes will be launched from the stratosphere to obtain images of the eclipse.
What's the sun?
Every day we see it as a perfect circle in the sky, but the sun is much more complex than it seems. From the stains seen by Galileo to the disturbances that shake his interior, we will immerse ourselves in the physics of our star by the hand of expert Teresa del Rio.
Days of rehearsal to prepare for the summer sun eclipse: The sun will be in the same position as August 12 at sunset
Tomorrow, the Sun will have the same position as August 12, around 20:27, so you can see what the best place to see the phenomenon can be.
Why is it important for scientists to study eclipses?
After the 12th of August, the next one will be in 2180. So that moment is very important for scientists. With the images taken, they do a lot of research over the years. An example of this, in 1860, an astronomer from the United Kingdom came to the Basque Country to photograph an eclipse that took place then.
What is the sun crown?
Next August 12th the sun will be completely hidden behind the moon, and as a result of this eclipse we will be able to observe a second phenomenon in different corners of Euskal Herria: the solar crown. The astronomer Virginia Garcia of Aranzadi has explained to us what it consists of.
The Government will disseminate through a new website all the information about the solar eclipse on August 12
All the information generated about the eclipse will be made available to the public through the official website eclipsea.euskadi.eus. During the presentation, Virginia Garcia, a member of Aranzadi, has stressed that to see the eclipse, homologated glasses must be used and appropriate places chosen.
Great expectation about the total eclipse that can be seen on August 12
The moon will gradually begin to cover the sun, around 19:30, and the key moment will be between 20:27 and 20:28. Many people do not want to miss this phenomenon, and the inns in southern Navarre are overflowing for that day.
Álava, privileged territory of the Basque Country to observe the solar eclipse of August 2026
For more than a century the entire eclise has not been seen in the Basque Country, and on the 12th of August Álava will be the most privileged territory, the special astronomical phenomenon of avita will be visible throughout the territory. However, the peak of the eclipse will be around 20:28, so the sun will be "very low" by then, and it is likely that those who do not have a clear west/northwest horizon will not see it, because the sun will be neatly hidden by then.
