The big day of the Vitoria-Gasteiz holidays comes with part of the programming in the air due to the strike
The floral offering and the aurresku to the White Virgin by the gangs of blouses and girls will be the most symbolic acts of the Vitoria-Gasteiz festivities this Wednesday. A strike by the entertainment and events sector is being called today and several concerts and activities are in question.
Vitoria-Gasteizwill live today the great day of the festivities of Andre Maria Blanca. The tradition will again be the protagonist with religious and institutional events in honor of the patron saint of the city. However, the strike called by the workers of the entertainment and events sector may alter part of the festive programming planned for today.
The first acts began at 7:00 a.m. with the Dawn Rosary, which runs through the Historic District accompanied by chants and prayers.
At 8 a.m. there will be an early morning mass in the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca and, an hour later, one of the most special moments of the festivities: the floral offering and aurresku of honor that all the gangs of blouses and girls will offer to the White Virgin from the balcony of the church of San Miguel.
The agenda will continue at 1 p.m. with the award of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Gold Medal to the company Lascaray SA. The event will take place at the Villa Suso Palace and will be chaired by Mayor Maider Etxebarria.
Throughout the day, there will also be activities for all audiences on the streets of the city, with giants and heads, Gargantua, children's games, theatre and musical proposals, as part of the parties that will last until next Monday.
The strike has called into question several events
The celebration coincides withthe day of strike called by entertainment and events workers in protest at the blocking of the negotiation of their collective agreement, which has been going on for more than two and a half years.
As a result of the stoppage, the concerts planned in the txosnas have been cancelled and other important appointments on the official programme are in the air, including the midnight concert of Leire Martínez in the Plaza de los Fueros.
Workers have also called for a rally at 6 p.m. in front of the post office to call for progress in negotiating the agreement.
