Kerman Villate's family denies an internal investigation by the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz
The family of the young man killed by a blow from a janitor at the Mitika discotheque in Vitoria-Gasteiz has responded to statements by the mayor, Maider Etxebarria, who said that the City Council never opened an investigation to clarify what happened and has also requested that the required documentation be provided and that the City Council cooperate with the justice system.
Kerman Villate's family, the young man who died as a result of a coup by a doorman at the Mitika discotheque in Vitoria-Gasteiz, released a statement this week questioning Mayor Maider Etxebarria's statements about the City Council's action in this case.
Interviewed on the Boulevard de Radio Euskadi programme last Tuesday, Etxebarria stated that the City Council had conducted an internal investigation and would not make further assessments because there is a judicial case.
According to the family, this internal investigation "was never carried out". The note states that only a disciplinary case was processed against the local police officer who warned of the danger situation at the Mitika discotheque.
According to the communication, the file examined whether the attestation made by the officer was justified and investigated the alleged leak of the document to the media, but according to the family, "no investigation was initiatedto clarify the situation before and after the attestation, the attacks and the coordination between the police ".
They also criticize the fact that the mayor has resorted to the judicialization of the case in order to avoid pronouncing on the matter. The family considers that the accountability of the City Council falls within the administrative channel and has nothing to do with the criminal procedure that remains open.
For all these reasons, he requests the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz to rectify his assertions, to cooperate with the justice system and to hand over the required documentation, which, according to his complaint, they have been claiming for months and which they consider to be their right, stressing that this documentation is necessary for the clarification of municipal action in relation to the facts.
