More than 860 migrants from Ceuta have been moved to a newly refurbished temporary facility
The Basque Government will have around 4,300 places on a temporary basis and plans to exceed 6,000 in the coming days.
On Sunday, 864 migrants who were on the streets in the Loma Colmenar area of Ceuta were transferred to a new temporary shelter resource , according to the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and Migration. The department headed by Elma Saiz has specified that the transfer took place voluntarily and without incident, with the support of the State Security Forces and Bodies.
The displaced persons will henceforth be treated at a farm in Los Rosales, owned by SEPES and ceded by the Ministry of Housing, which has also advanced that it is preparing with minors a new space for more than 300 women.
With the opening of the resource in Los Rosales, the Government is currently providing some 4,300 places to cater for migrants arriving in Ceuta in July, a capacity that the Government plans to continue to increase to more than 6,000 places in the coming days to reduce the presence of people on the street and in public spaces and to ensure care in facilities enabled for this purpose.
The Ministry has explained that these resources also allow progress to be made in the identification and processing of the files of each migrant in order to determine the appropriate measures in each case, in accordance with the regulations in force.
This transfer is part of the Government's extraordinary plan to expand the reception network in Ceuta as a matter of urgency and to gradually relocate migrants who remain in makeshift settlements or areas of the city.
