The City Council has reported three male assaults at the Hondarribia festivities and arrested a man
A day after the festivities in Hondarribia, the City Council took stock last night and reported three cases of male violence at parties, one of whichwas linked to the arrest by the Ertzaintza of a 21-year-old man accusedof sexually assaulting a woman on 10 September, as confirmed on Wednesday by the Basque Government's Department of Security.
The detainee has been released on charges.
Hondarribia City Council's "strongest condemnation"
In a statement, the Hondarribia City Council expressed its "strongest condemnation" of all manifestations of male violence, adding that the festive atmosphere cannot in any way justify violence, harassment or other sexist behaviour against women and that in all spheres of life women have the right to live freely, safely and without fear.
The City Council has also conveyed its solidarity, support and closeness to the women who have suffered such violence.
