A massive protest for housing is taking place in Madrid and preparations are under way for a general strike
Thousands of people took to the streets of Madrid this Saturday for decent housing, a day after Congress rejected the Spanish Government's two housing decrees.
The protest took place in the middle of the camping camp at the Puerta del Sol, which is now on its seventh day and has also spread to the streets around the square. Although the measures have been rejected by Parliament, the participants in the protest have maintained the mobilisation and called for housing to be placed at the centre of their agenda.
Housing Tenants Union announces preparations for general strike
The spokeswoman for the Madrid Housing Tenants Union, Valeria Racu, has reported that the organization is working with the majority unions to organize a general housing strike.
According to Racu, the strike will take place 'very soon' but the date has not yet been set, and he has explained that work is being done to reach a consensus with the other institutions to organise the mobilisation and to have 'unprecedented participation over the years'.
