State of the restaurant after the fire.
Thejudge investigating the fire at the Burro Canaglia restaurant in Madrid in which two Biscayan women died has decided to prosecute six people for the crimes of injury that have resulted indeath or serious injury .
On April 21, 2023, there was the terrible incident in which three people died. The deceased were a waitress from the 25-year-old bar where they dined in the restaurant and two friendsfrom Bizkaia, aged 41 and 43 . The worker and one of the clients died at the scene and the other woman died in hospital three weeks later.
The court ruling lists what happened that night: how the fire started, the "client escape" it caused, and the serious consequences of the fire.
The judge has based himself on a report by the Madrid Provincial Inspectorate of Labour and Social Security, which considered as causes of the accident the ornamentation of plants (pastical and dry) that covered the premises and that some dishes ended up with intense fire in places (tables) that were not prepared for this purpose.
According to this document, there is also a lack of coordination in the project phase of the restaurant to integrate decoration into the factors to be taken into account in the planning of fire suppression and emergency means, as well as evacuation routes \ u00A0or evacuation and emergency plans.
With regard to the level of responsibility of the architect's office responsible for the refurbishment of the premises, the car indicates that those involved have conflicting versions of whether or not floral decoration was part of the architectural project.
For all these reasons, and after the investigationof thecase, the judge holds the sole administratorof the catering company, the restaurant manager, two directors of the franchise companyand two architects (one member of the local reform office and the other hired by him) responsible for the incident.
He has prosecuted all of them for murder, for the offences of reckless injury that may result in death or serious injury, and for the offences against workers' rights . The civil liability lies not only with the defendants but also with the respective insurers.
