Trump and Putin meet in Budapest to negotiate the end of the war in Ukraine
This was announced by the President of the United States after a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, although he did not specify the date.
US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest to try to end the war in Ukraine, although he has not specified the date.
It will be the second meeting between the two leaders, following the one held in Alaska on August 15.
Trump made the announcement this Thursday, one day before Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski was received at the White House.
"President Putin and I will meet in an agreed place in Budapest, Hungary, to see if we can end this shameful war between Russia and Ukraine," the US leader said in a statement on the social network Truth Social.
According to Trump, both have agreed to hold a high-level advisory meeting next week, in which Secretary of State Marco Rubio will participate.
The Republican recalled that he will meet Zelensky at the Oval Office this Friday and advanced that they will discuss his conversation with Putin.
Trump suggested this week the possibility of Tomahawk delivering long-range missiles to Ukraine, which has been interpreted as a further twist in the White House strategy to increase pressure on Putin.
The Kremlin warned this Thursday, on the eve of the meeting, that the transfer of these types of missiles to Kiev would lead to a "new level of escalation."
