Five other suspects of jewellery theft at the Louvre Museum have been arrested
The authorities have specified that the jewels have not yet been recovered, but they are confident that they will be found and returned to the Paris art gallery.
Five other people have been arrested on charges of stealing jewellery from the Louvre, including one of the four alleged thieves in the gang that committed the robbery, according to Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau in an interview with RTL radio this Thursday.
The five were arrested simultaneously in and around Paris. One of those arrested last night was "the target of the investigators" and they have "DNA evidence linking him to the robbery." He was one of the suspects we had at the jo-point, "the prosecutor explained.
The other four arrested this Wednesday "may provide information on the circumstances of the robbery," he added.
It is suspected that it was they who "entered the Apollo Gallery to steal jewellery," he said. The prosecutor added that "nothing suggests at this time that the authors were accomplices inside the museum." However, investigators do not rule out a much larger group than the four authors identified by the surveillance cameras, he said.
Beccuau has specified that the jewels have not yet been recovered, but that they remain hopeful that they will be found and returned to the Louvre Museum.
