Despite progress over the past 12 months, many Syrians are still living in a borderline situation. Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara has pledged to rebuild the country and has called on the population to make efforts to help consolidate stability.
It is now a year sincethe fallof Bashar al-Assad's regime. The dictatorship in Syria lasted more than 50 years, led first by Hafed al-Assad and then by his son.
Hope, however, has not been easy in Syria for the past year, and today they are still far from achieving peace and stability. The data show that over the past 12 months more than 10,000 people, many of them civilians, and so many other supporters of the former regime, have died in the fighting.
Al Sharaa has pledged to rebuild the country
Transitional President Ahmed al-Shara has succeeded in relocating Syria internationally, such as meeting with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and other world leaders over the course of this year. But he faces two major challenges: stabilizing internal securityand restoring the confidence of the population. On Monday, he promised the population to rebuild the country and urged them to join forces to help consolidate stability.
In recent years, nearly two million displaced persons have returned to areas of origin in Syria, according to UN data, despite the ongoing reconstruction process and the lack of basic services. The UN Refugee Agency has warned that 16 million people in need of humanitarian assistance in the country are living in precarious conditions.
Many celebrations in Damasco
Syria is still far from peace and normalization, and next year will not be easy either. The country is still fragmented, but human rights, security, basic services and, in general, better living conditions are gradually gaining ground.
Today they have organized numerous celebrations, the main one in the capital, Damascus, with a military parade to commemorate the first anniversary of the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
