Syrian authorities and Kurdish militias hold each other responsible for attacks that have left 2 dead and several injured
Both sides accuse each other of violating the Kurdish forces' agreement to enter the Syrian state.
Syrian government forces and the Kurdish-arab armed alliance known as the Syrian Democratic Force (SID) have engaged inviolent clashes at the entrance to the city of Aleppo (north-west Syria), resulting in at least two deaths and 15 injuries, including several minors.
The Syrian Ministry of the Interior has stated that SID militiamen deployed in Kurdish-majority neighbourhoods have "betrayed" the Internal Security Forces and attacked their checkpoints, "breaking agreements." On the other hand, the official news agency SANA has reported that "a young man and a woman" have been killed in an attack on a house, according to sources who have indicated that Kurdish and Syrian forces are "bombing several neighborhoods of Aleppo."
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the SID group has stated that "the Damascus armed forces are using tanks and artillery against the suburbs of the city of Aleppo" and has "roundly denied" Damascus's statements. According to the Kurdish-led forces, the responsibility for the attacks lies with "pro-Government militiamen who have repeatedly carried out provocations and attacks against civilians" and the Government "has not taken any action".
Amid these mutual accusations, hostilities are continuing in Aleppo, and the population is forced to flee. Indeed, the governor of Aleppo and the Civil Defence recommend that residents "avoid approaching collision zones to avoid any danger."
The new Syrian Government and the Kurds signed an agreement on 10 March for the reunification of Kurdish and Arab autonomous agencies to the Syrian State after the overthrowof Bashar al-Assad . But the process has been hampered by a number of obstacles that have recently resumed negotiations.
Earlier this Monday, following a visit by a Turkish delegation to Damascus, the foreign ministers of Turkey and Syria, Hakan Fidan and Assad al-Shaibani, respectively, warned that the Kurdish forces are unwilling to join the Syrian Government.
