Russian President Vladimir Putin has assured us that Ukraine has received "some signals" that it wants to talk to Russia to end the war, not to close the territorial dispute.
"We see, we are sorry and we know that there are Sienals, belonging to Kiev, who suggest that they are prepared to engage in some kind of dialogue," Putin said at the beginning of his live televised speech to the press and the public.
He stressed that Russia is prepared to "end the conflict peacefully, based on the principles I set out before the Foreign Ministry last June" and "if the original causes of the conflict are eliminated."
However, he has assured us that Kiev is not yet ready to address the issue of the territory, which is the main obstacle to the peace negotiations.
Putin recalled that the most important of these principles is the withdrawal of enemy troops from the four Ukrainian regions annexed by Russia by 2022.
He has also been convinced that the Russian army will achieve "new successes before the end of the year", especially in Donbas and Zaporia.
