It's the longest hunger strike in the United Kingdom since the IRA
The longest on hunger strike are Amy Gardiner-Gibson, 'Amu Gib' (30 years old) and Qesser Zuhrah (50 days without food). Gardiner-Gibson can't walk and he moves in a wheelchair. Jeremy Corbyn Your Party picks up the view of the Labour leader of the new left-wing party. Zuhrah, 20, was arrested under anti-terrorist legislation and has been hospitalized for the past week.
Another activist, Kamran Ahmed, is 28 years old and hasn't eaten since November 8th. He's 44 days on hunger strike. Earlier this Sunday, an interview with Ahmed was published in the newspaper 'The Daily Telegraph'. In it he has stated that "it is worth dying" if it allows "to reduce foreign oppression."
"Yes. I'm afraid to die. Yeah. I think that could have consequences for the rest of my life, but I see a risk of profit and I think it's worth it, "he told the newspaper on the phone from his cell at HMP Pentonville prison.
Ahmed was arrested for causing £1 million with a hammer along with other activists after illegally entering a compound of a UK Armed Forces contractor in the Bristol region before the group was banned. Ahmed has lost 15 kilos since the hunger strike began. Now he weighs 60 kilos and claims to have very acute chest pains, like he's getting a taser discharge, and he's shaking.
Another activist, 31-year-old Heba Muraisi, is still on hunger strike in HMP Newhall prison and has been on hunger strike for 49 days. Muraisi has family in the south of the Gaza Strip.
Teuta Hoxha leaves hunger strike after 40 days without food in HMP Peterborough prison. Jon Cinke and Umer Jalid have also abandoned the protest measure after 38 and 12 days of hunger strike. All of them include theft, criminal damage and violent disorder.
The strike began to protest against postal communications, calls and restrictions on visits. They are now calling for the closure of all military companies related to Israel, the outlawing of Palestine Action and the release of prisoners on bail.
Activists' lawyers have asked to meet with Justice Minister David Lammy and have warned that his life is in danger. However, the Government has refused to receive them and hasensured that all the protocols envisaged are being complied with. The United Kingdom Court of Appeal approved in October the complaint filed by one of the founders of the NGO, Huda Ammori, against the decision of former Interior Minister Yvette Cooper.
At the end of July, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, called on the British Government to lift the outlawing of the NGO as an excessive anti-terrorist law in 2000.
