Trump imposes 25% tariffs on countries buying Iranian goods
The decision comes after indirect negotiations between the US and Iran on the nuclear program. The Asian country has described the talks as "a good start."
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday imposing an additional 25% tariff on products from countries buying, importing or acquiring Iranian goods or services, considering Tehran's activities a threat to national security.
This decision comes after the first indirect nuclear negotiations between the US and the Asian country. Iran's first talks in Oman were a "good start" and agreed to continue negotiations, although it did not specify the date.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abas Araqchi said he has had "long and intense conversations" with White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, through Oman Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi.
The Iranian diplomat explained that further negotiationshave been agreed , but that consultations with Tehran and Washington are needed to find out how and when this process will take place.
Araqchi said that after the "eight complicated months" and the twelve days of war with Israel, "there is a great deal of mistrust, and that this is an obstacle to negotiation."
Nevertheless, he added, "If the US continues with this approach, we can create a negotiating zone in the coming talks."
Of course, the clearly states that "the condition for any conversation is that there is no threat or pressure. "
Negotiations come after US President Trump's threats to intervene militarily in Iran. Abraham Lincoln USS aircraft carrier and three missile launchershave been taken to the Persian Gulf near Iranian waters.
