The Tour will cut off its third stage today and finish in Les Angles for the fires, without an audience
The organisers of the French race have decided to change the final section of the third stage, which links Granollers with Les Angles, due to forest fires in southern France.
The Tour de France is today facing a third stage without public or advertising caravans in the final section of the tour due to fires affecting the area.
The decision was taken following meetings between the director of the race, Christian Prudhomme, the prefect of the Eastern Pyrenees, Pierre Regnault de la Mothe, the security forces and various government agencies.
It was initially proposed to suspend this third stage, as well as the fourth stage, but they have finally decided to maintain the race with safety changes. The affected section corresponds to the last 40 kilometres , including the Col du Calvaire and the Les Angles climb, where there will be no spectators.
The fire has already burned 1,500 acres 70 kilometres from the planned destination, and some 700 firefighters are working to control the flames.
The stage will begin in Granollers and end in Les Angles around 5 p.m.
