Morocco's Minister for Religious Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, has again raised Morocco's claim to Ceuta and Melilla on a religious holiday presided over by King Mohamed VI, which was also attended by Crown Prince Mulay Hasan and Prime Minister Aziz Ajanuch.
In a speech at the Royal Palace in Rabat commemorating the birth of the prophet Muhammad at the Eid al-Maulud festival, Toufiq quoted the two autonomous cities, two Islamic scholars born in Ceuta before that territory of North Africa was under Spanish sovereignty in 1580.
Thus, according to the official agency MAP, the minister has highlighted the "deep connection" of the Moroccans with Muhammad, which is expressed through a political expression, the king's command of believers as the descendant of the prophet, and another of a spiritual and emotional nature.
