Israeli settlers attack diplomats from France, Belgium and Poland in the West Bank
Netanyahu has questioned the settler attack, as he did yesterday with the beating of Heidi Levine, an American photographer at the Washington Post.
A groupof Israeli settlers attacked European diplomats on Saturday in the city ofTaibe, east of Ramallah , in the West Bank, in a multi-vehicle convoy.
The windows of one of the vehicles at the Belgian consulate have been broken and passengers have been forced to show their IDs. Videos broadcast on social media show one of the diplomats being shot down.
Israeli Army Radio reported the attack and stated that diplomats from France, Belgium and Poland were in the convoy.
The Israeli police have announced that they will open an investigation into what happened "to identify the suspects so that they can be brought to justice."
However, Israeli PrimeMinister Binyamin Netanyahu has questioned the attack, calling it an "alleged attack without reliable evidence," according to a message from his office in X. Yesterday, Netanyahu described as an "alleged" attack by more than 50 settlers on Palestinians collecting olives in the town of Abu Falah.
Heidi Levine, an American photographerat the Washington Post, was beaten to death and had to be operated on today.
The facts were documented in video and photo by other journalists and activists.
Israel does not arrest settlers (sometimes uniformed and in service) who attack or kill Palestinians, and an investigation almost never ends on a formal charge, so several NGOs denounce a climate of "total impunity" in the occupied West Bank.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot has condemned the attack.
