It's snowing in the Basque Country!
It is snowing all over the Basque Country except on the coast, so some road is cut off in Navarre, chains are needed in several ports and until the afternoon the yellow snow and ice warning is activated.
Since dawn it has been snowing almost all over the Basque Country excepton the coast, and the Basque Government has activated the Winter Road Plan at 03:00, coinciding with the start of the yellow snow warning in the Basque Country. The situation will continue until 15:00, with weak or moderate rainfall and between 200 and 400 metres.
The plan provides forthe DDFF and 215 highway snow removal machines, seven heavy cranes located at strategic points for the removal of high-tonnage vehicles and 130 support vehicles for coordination and surveillance, as well as the mobilization of Ertzaintza traffic patrols.
In the road network, the ban on movement in the AP-68 hasbeen lifted after the night , between kilometres 13 and 36, between the tolls of Llodio and Altube, in both directions, but the snow continues to affect several sections of the route.
According to updated traffic information, closed daude Herrera and the port of Opakua, both in Álava, while in many ports chains are needed or circulated with caution due to the presence of snow and ice, including Altube, Orduña, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Azazeta, Bernedo, Zaldiaran, Kurtzeta and Gatzaga, in Álava, and in other areas.
