Snow

There's only one week left before winter ends, but it's still cold, it's raining and snowing in the highest places today.

From Slovenia to the United Kingdom, snow and ice have dominated all over Europe these days. Meteorology has allowed many to enjoy: taking pictures, walking or playing sports.

After the Christmas holidays, we have returned to our usual occupations with very low temperatures and the risk of ice. Moreover, as the day progresses, snow will again be a protagonist in some parts of the Basque Country.

It is snowing all over the Basque Country except on the coast, so some road is cut off in Navarre, chains are needed in several ports and until the afternoon the yellow snow and ice warning is activated.

A cold front from the Arctic has alerted much of Europe. There have been problems at airports and public transport in Scotland, the Netherlands, France and Italy.

In the face of the danger of avalanches, it is important to bring to the mountain the appropriate safety material: a shrimp device, a shovel and a probe can save our lives.

The snow level is expected to be between 600 and 800 metres, and low Christmas and Christmas temperatures will continue.

The heavy snowfall of the last few days has left up to half a meter of snow in the Aragonese Pyrenees, increasing the risk of avalanches. On Monday a mountaineer recorded a new avalanche in Monte Perdido, and the Aragonese Government has asked for great attention from the neighbours and visitors of the mountain areas.

Euskalmet and AEMET have issued yellow warnings for coastal risk and snow, as temperatures will drop significantly at the end of the weekend and the snow level will be below 1,000 metres.

The warning will be in effect from noon until midnight and the expected snow thickness will be between 0 and 5 centimetres, at 1,000 metres.

The sun has warmed up a little, but we woke up with low temperatures this Saturday too.

The first snowfall of autumn has bleached vast areas of the Basque Country, leaving bucolic figures in regions such as Sakana and Goerri, where children and adults have enjoyed the white cloak. However, the winter stamp has brought difficulties: with the ports closed in Álava, the roads slippery and the villages almost covered with snow, the snow has exceeded expectations.

Images taken from the air show that the fields and mountains, which until recently were yellow or reddish, were completely whitened by the snow this morning.

The snow started early in the morning in Sakana and covered the roads in white, forcing the A-10 motorway to be cut off in the Pamplona sense due to the impact of an accident truck.
