Following the announcement last week of the modalities of Literature in Basque (Unai Elorriaga), Children's and Youth Literature in Basque (Karmele Mitxelena) and Illustration of Literary Work (Maite Rosende), the winners of the other sections of the Basque Literary Awards were announced today, Monday, in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Garazi Albizua (Termita), Koldo Biguri (Arturo Island. Memories of a Child, Elsa Morante), Markos Zapiain (Txillardegi linguist) and Itxaso del Castillo (Furiosas Women. The female monster in the audiovisual of terror) are the winners of the 2025 Basque Literary Awards in Spanish Literature, Translation into Basque Essay and Essay.
Garazi Albizua (Santurtzi, 1985) is "a new, insolent and uncomfortable voice," in the jury's words, "and his twisted and precise prose moves away from perfectly consensual images of the duty of motherhood and care." Termitais therefore "a novel bet that raises stories opposed to hegemonic social discourses."
The Basque Translation Prize will be awarded to Koldo Biguri(Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1962) for his "excellent" translation into the Basque Country of the Italian Elsa Morante The Islandof Artur novel. "The translator has achieved an adequate balance between the fidelity due to the original work and the readability of the target text."
Markos Zapiain(Irun, 1963) has been awarded the Essay Award in Euskera. "The essayist explains the foundations of Txillardegi's thinking. The essayist offers us, section by section, the keys to understanding Txillardegi's writing.

The Department of Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government shall award a prize of 18,000 euros to the winner of each of the seven modalities, with an additional 4,000 euros if the award-winning work is published in another language (except, of course, in the Translation of Literature into Basque).
The awards ceremony will take place on November 26 at the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastian.
