Karmele Mitxelena and Laura Chivite have won the Euskadi de Plata Prize for Gipuzkoa Bookstores
The booksellers of Gipuzkoa believe that "The Attack of the Goats" (Chivite) and "Happiness, or something like that" (Mitxelena) deserve a second chance from readers. In the comic book section, they have chosen the album "War in Gaza" (Joe Sacco).
"The Attack of the Goats", the first novel by Laura Chivite and "Happiness, or something like that", by Karmele Mitxelena, have been chosen by the booksellers of Gipuzkoa to award the Basque Silver Prize, with which the bookstores of Gipuzkoa want to "give a second chance to the quality works that have been relegated to a second place in the production of the year."
In the Illustrated Comics and Albums section, "War in Gaza" has been chosen by Joe Sacco (script and illustration) and Julen Gabiria (translation), edited by Astiberri.
The managers of the bookstores have appreciated the "serene and close writing" that Karmele Mitxelena (Oiartzun, 1988) has shown in "Happiness, or something like that," as well as the use of "effective prose in a novel about lives in the face of the taboo of death and suicide." Earlier this week, Mitxelena received the Basque Country Prize for Children's and Youth Literature.
The Association of Bookstore Managers has said that, with the award in the comic book and illustrated albums section for the work translated by Julen Gabiria and edited by Astiberri, it wanted to pay tribute to "a book that confirms the graphic art and social and political commitment of Jose Sacco, one of the best comic book producers in the world."
The awards ceremony will take place on October 22 at the Erragundia bookstore in Donostia.
