The Basque Orchestra will take root in the 2025/2026 season
The Basque Orchestra today presented in San Sebastián the 2025/2026 season, the first to be held by the new Director-General, Roberto Ugate. The Symphony Season will begin on 29 September 2025 in Vitoria-Gasteiz and end on 9 June 2026 in Donostia-San Sebastián.
As explained at the presentation, the roots of the orchestra will be very visible this season, and this season will feature works by composers such as Maurice Ravel, Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, Pablo Sorozabal, Carmelo Bernaola and Félix Ibarrondo, among others.
On the 150th anniversary of his birth, Maurice Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe will be recovered by the Basque Orchestra during the Symphony Season, together with the Landarbaso Choir, and on the 200th anniversary of the death of Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, the composition of The Happy Slave.
Along with Ravel and Arriaga, Pablo Sorozábal, Carmelo Bernaola and Félix Ibarrondo will also be heard during the season, and the composer Guernica Félix Ibarrondo will release his latest work, Guernica.
In this list of Basque composers, we must add Pascual Aldave, whose work Akelarre will be recorded by the Basque Orchestra.
The presence of the voice will be important during the season; seven of the twelve symphonic programmes will also have a voice, and most of them will be from the Basque Country and women: Mira Urbieta-Vega (Herminie), Sofia Esparza (Seven Lieder), Elena Sancho Pereg and Marife Nogales (La nuit and The Dream of a Summer Night),
Other great composers such as Berlioz, Fazil Say, Franz Schmidt, Cesar Franck, Johann Sebastian Bach, Strauss, Bruckner, Brahms, Rakhmaninov, Chaikovsky...
In addition, the Basque Orchestra will arrive at the L'Eauditori in Barcelona (November) and the Autumn Musical Soriano (September).
The sale of new subscriptions will start on July 1, after the current renewal period at a price of between 85 €and 245 €(10 concerts). From September 1, free tickets will be on sale.
