162 Basque music groups leave Spotify
162 music groups in the Basque Country, more than 650 musicians in total, have decided to leave the Spotify digital music platform and withdraw their songs, as explained today in Pamplona by the Musicians with Palestine initiative.
Among the reasons for leaving the platform, which is by far the leader in the global digital music market ("It is well known that streaming platforms are not, in general terms, instruments created for the benefit of musicians," they mention in a note), "the drop left to overflow the waters for many is the investment of Spotify leader Daniel Ek in the arms company Helsing Defense, which develops military drones."
In view of this, at the beginning of August the Musician had awakened the seed of Palestine by the hand of a couple of musical groups, and more than 650 musicians have already joined the movement. "However, we are well aware that we will be more, we have many layers to touch.
"Knowing that we are no one for Spotify, we want to promote that same intention in the opposite direction: let Spotify be nothing for us," they summarize. "Furthermore, I would like to stress that the initiative with Palestine was not born to speak from a moral point of view, let alone to point out to the trade unionists, since we are aware that the casuistics and preferences of these musicians in the Basque Country are different in each case," they add.
The audience has also been invited to join the boycott of Zionism and the resistance of the Palestinian people.
