The spokeswoman for the Basque Government, Maria Ubarretxena, has stressed the importance of the Pope inviting lehendakari, which makes it possible for the Basque Country "to be back in an international space of dialogue".
In a press appearance following the meeting of the Governing Council, the spokesman explained that the lehendakari will represent an autonomous community "committed to peace, democracy, human dignity and social justice" and is in favour of a "stronger Europe in an international context of particular complexity".
