The PNV confirms Mikel Hidalgo's candidacy for the Mayor of Bilbao
Bilbao's 33-year-old politician was the only candidate, and was unanimously endorsed by the 13 A0PNV municipal boards.
The PNVhas officially confirmed the candidacy of Mikel Hidalgo(Bilbao, 1993) for the Mayor of Bilbaoin the municipal elections of 2027.
In a statement, the PNV recalled that Hidalgo was the candidate proposed by the Bizkai Buru Batzar (BBB) and that no other names were raised. Almost a month ago, the internal process of electing the candidate for mayor of Bilbao was launched by the jeltzale party, which announced that the current mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, would not be a candidate in 2027.
The candidacy of Mikel Hidalgo yesterday afternoon by the Inter-General of the Bilbao Municipal Area, the body that brings together all the municipal assemblies of the villa.
BBB PresidentIñigo Ansola has welcomed the election and stressed that he is "the best candidate Bilbao could have had." In Ansola's words, the PNV candidate is "a trained, multilingual, empathetic person with a strategic vision and ability to lead and make decisions."
With Hidalgo confirmed as a candidate, jeltzales have taken a further step in the generational renewal being carried out by the PNV, which had previously appointed Jon Insausti as mayor of San Sebastian.
