The Official Gazette of the Spanish State (BOE) published on Tuesday the dissolution of the Cortes and the advance of the general elections to 29 November, eight months earlier than planned.
The Royal Decree, issued by King Philip VI and ratified by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will enter into force today and automatically dissolve the Congress of Deputies and the Senate.
Thus, from today, the54 days provided for in the Organic Law on the General Electoral Regime (LOREG) will beginuntil election day.
Once the elections are held, the chambers will meet on 23 December at 10 a.m., one day before the expiry of the constitutional maximum period of 25 days, which expires on 24 December, Christmas Day.
According to the Royal Decree, the election campaign will last fifteen days, beginning at 00:00 on 13 November and ending at 24:00 on 27 November.
