The Supreme Court will consider a request for Cerdán's release today
Three judges of the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Court will hear the defence's arguments for their release. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the PP, as private charges, have opposed their release.
The Supreme Court will hold a hearing on Monday to decide whether to keep former socialist leader Santos Cerdán in pre-trial detention or to consider his request for release, which is being investigated in the context of the "Koldo case" for his alleged role in collecting illegal commissions in exchange for public awards.
The Appeals Chamber, composed of Judges Juan Ramón Berdugo, Pablo Llarena (rapporteur) and Antonio del Moral, will hear from 10:30 a.m. the arguments of his defence. The Public Prosecutor's Office against Terrorism and the People's Party have opposed his release as a popular accusation.
Cerdán, who has been in prison since 30 June, has denied from the outset having received any money and has also denounced a "general case" against him. Leopoldo Puente, the investigating judge, saw "extraordinary" evidence to order his imprisonment.
