Puente has pledged to "fully" clarify what happened in the Adamuz and Gelida accidents
The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has apologized to the users of the Rodalies service and explained the status of the service.
The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has expressed the Spanish Government's commitment to "fully" clarify what happened in the railway accidents in Adamuz (Córdoba) and Gelida (Barcelona): "Those affected have the right to know the truth, thereby restoring citizens'confidence in our rail system. "
The minister appeared on Tuesday at his own request beforethe Committee on Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Congress ofDeputies to report on the two accidents and to explain the current situation of the Rodalies service in Catalonia.
Puente has reviewed the facts known in connection with the Adamuz accident and has highlighted two aspects: that rail train traffic was interrupted at the time of the accident and that "from the very first moment" it was known that the two trains had been involved and that the emergency services had been informed.
The Minister also recalled the Ministry's readiness to cooperate with the bodies conducting the twoongoing investigations: the CIAF, which investigates the causes of the accident in order to establish recommendations and strengthen rail safety, and the court conducting the case in order to determine criminal liability.
Finally, with regard to the restoration of the high-speed service between Madrid and Sevilla-Malaga, the Minister has detailed the work being done to recover the infrastructure, although he has pointed out that "it is not yet possible to give a date for the restoration of the servicedue to weather conditions ".
Rodalies Service of Catalonia
In the second part of the hearing, the Minister referred to the railway accident in Gelida and the situation of the Rodalies service. He apologized for the situation the citizens of Catalonia are experiencing these days and recalled the 'historic' problems suffered by the network in the suburbs of Catalonia, both because of its route, which is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and because of the investment deficit of previous governments.
Since the accident, Adif has mobilized more than 300 workers to monitor and resolve the incidents caused by the Harry blur. So far, about 70 points have been inspected, of which more than 30 have been concluded to be "high-risk" because they are "taludes and potential landslides" due to the state of the ground.
He also referred to the investments being made by the Spanish Government through the 2020-2030 Rodalies Plan, which covers 80% of the Ministry's rail investment in Catalonia and which last week announced an increase in global investment of EUR 1.7 billion, which will eventually exceed EUR 8 billion.
