Zapatero has appealed the judge's order to investigate his accounts and those closest to him
The defense of the former president of the Spanish government has warned that a "general" authorization to investigate bank accounts could lead to a "prospective investigation."
The former Presidentof the Government , José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has appealed against the order issued by the investigating judge of the Ultra case, José Luis Calama Plus, to investigate his accounts and those of his entourage.
Last week, the magistrate authorized theEconomic and Fiscal Crime Unit (UDEF) of the National Police to investigate the accounts of Zapatero, his daughters Alba and Laura and Secretary Gertrudis Alcazar.
In a letter sent today, President Victor Moreno 's lawyer asks Calama to revoke this permit , not least because such a "general" order may give rise to a "prospective investigation."
Specifically, the judge asked the police for movements of accounts that have been open in about 10 banks since January 1, 2020, to gather "more information" that could be useful for the Plus Ultra case.
In addition, the judge also ordered a separate piece of bank information to be disclosed and investigated in a separate manner, excluding data unrelated to the case and respecting the privacy of those investigated.
In the written submission, counsel for Zapatero states that it is essential to determine which information is to be used in this separate piece and which is not, with prior clarification of the criteria for it. The defence requests that the police use not only information of interest to his thesis, but also data useful for the defence of those investigated.
